- Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
- Complex Medical Needs (CMN)
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and severe communication and interaction difficulties
- Significant physical difficulties alongside complex learning needs
Admissions Process
Wigan Local Authority is the admitting authority for Hope School and College. All admissions are made in consultation with the Headteacher, who works closely with the Local Authority to determine whether the school is able to meet a child’s identified needs.
When considering a placement, careful consideration is given to:
- Whether the school has the specialist expertise and staffing required to meet the pupil’s needs.
- The impact of the admission on the learning, wellbeing and safety of the existing school community.
- Whether the appropriate facilities, resources and therapeutic support are available to enable the pupil to thrive.
The aim is always to ensure that every pupil receives the high-quality, specialist provision they require within a safe and supportive environment.
Education, Health and Care Plans
All pupils admitted to Hope School and College will have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). In exceptional circumstances, Wigan Local Authority may request an assessment placement for a child without an EHCP while an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment is completed.
Such placements are made at the discretion of the Local Authority in consultation with the Headteacher.
Admission Criteria
Pupils eligible for a place at Hope School and College are those whose severe and complex or profound and multiple special educational needs have a significant and long-term impact on their learning, communication, independence and social development, requiring highly specialised educational provision.
Our detailed admission criteria are reviewed regularly by Wigan Local Authority and will be published on this page when updated.
