School Uniform

uniform

At Hope Special School and College, we believe that a school uniform helps to create a sense of belonging and pride within our school community. We encourage pupils to wear the appropriate uniform for their department; however, we recognise that many of our pupils have individual sensory, physical, medical or communication needs.

We are committed to ensuring that uniform requirements do not become a barrier to learning, comfort or wellbeing. As a result, we take a flexible and personalised approach to uniform expectations. Where a pupil has sensory sensitivities or other additional needs, alternative clothing or footwear may be agreed in consultation with parents and carers.

Nursery (optional)

Reception Class and Primary Department

  • Red round-neck sweater
  • White polo shirt
  • Grey skirt or trousers/joggers
  • Red gingham summer dress

Senior Department

  • Navy V-neck jumper or sweatshirt
  • White shirt or polo shirt
  • Grey skirt or grey school trousers/joggers
  • Navy gingham summer dress.

College

There is no set uniform for college students. We encourage students to wear comfortable, practical clothing suitable for their learning activities and work-related experiences. We ask that all clothing is appropriate for an educational setting.

Physical Education (P.E.) Kit

For P.E. lessons, pupils should bring:

  • Black pumps or trainers
  • Navy shorts or jogging bottoms
  • White T-shirt

Where pupils have sensory or physical needs that make standard P.E. kit unsuitable, reasonable adjustments can be made to ensure they can participate comfortably and safely.

Labelling Personal Belongings

Please ensure that all clothing and personal belongings are clearly labelled with your child’s name to help us return any misplaced items.

If you have any questions or concerns about uniform, footwear or P.E. kit requirements, please speak to your child’s class teacher. We will always work with families to find practical solutions that meet individual needs.

Purchasing School Uniform

Our school uniform isn’t logo branded therefore all aspects of our school uniform can be purchased from local stores and retailers such as supermarkets.

We have a uniform-cycle in school. For any families who wish to donate uniform this would be greatly appreciated and likewise for any families who need to use this service for free uniform then please help yourselves, the uniform cycle is located in the main school reception.
