Key Stage 1
The curriculum in Key Stage 1 has been designed around themes, stories and experiences enthuse our children and produce the most powerful learning; while remaining flexible enough to respond to children’s interests. The topics we introduce are starting points for the children’s play and learning and we are keen to develop topics following the children’s interests/ ideas/ development. The topics that we cover are very flexible and interest driven by the children we have in the key stage.
Children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties at Key stage 1 follow the Sensory pathway, focusing on Early Communication and Cognitive skills. As in all departments Communication underpins all areas of the Sensory Curriculum and is supported through spoken language, use of signing, visual cues and high and low tech communication aids. The creative topic choices provide effective and stimulating teaching programmes suitable for each individual child.
